Icons Series is delighted to announce a baseball great to join Team USA for the inaugural US event at the prestigious Liberty National Golf Club on June 30-July 1, 2022.
Fred Couples has called on another super talented golfing sportsman as he looks to win the inaugural Icons Series at Liberty National.
John Smoltz is the newest addition to Couples Team USA as they face the challenge of Ernie Els Rest of the World Team.
Smoltz is a true icon of the game of baseball. He had 22 seasons as a starter and was named as an All Star 8 times and in 1995 won the ultimate award as his Atlanta Braves were crowned world champions.
And the man known as ‘marmaduke’ could do it all with ball in hand. He’s the only pitcher in major league history to record 200 wins and 150 saves.
As for his golf, well, Tiger Woods once described John Smoltz as the best non-professional golfer he has ever seen in his life…..so….good luck Team Rest of the World.
Smoltz joins Team USA led by World Golf Hall of Famer and captain Fred Couples and will play alongside the most decorated Olympian of all-time Michael Phelps, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion Michael Strahan, two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger, 2013 Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith, and many other iconic names.
Team USA and Team Rest of the World will announce additional Icons to the event lineup in the coming weeks of the event, with 12 total icons per team participating.
