Led by captain Fred Couples, Team USA defeated Team Rest of World by a final score of 21.5 to 11.5 in the inaugural US Icons Series competition, which featured two days of thrilling action at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. The event was a showcase of impressive performances from the world’s greatest sports stars as John Smoltz, Ben Roethlisberger and Michael Phelps propelled the Stars & Stripes to victory on their home soil, despite strong displays from Harry Kane,  and Ash Barty.

Team USA jumped out to a strong start after Day 1, finishing with a 10-5 lead over Team Rest of the World after the matchups concluded, as Smoltz, J.R. Smith and Michael Vick each finished with an undefeated day. The baseball Hall of Famer put on an impressive display and was a perfect 3-0 in pairings which included Smith, Roethlisberger and Phelps.

Day 2 saw Team USA continue their momentum with two separate events. The first session of the day was a four-ball event, and Team USA would go on to hold a six-point advantage after key wins from pairs J.R. Smith and Golden Tate, Ben Roethlisberger and Michael Phelps, and Robbie Gould and Andrew Whitworth.

The tournament concluded with 12 singles matchups which presented an opportunity for Team Rest of the World to stage a late comeback. However, after Roethlisberger defeated Kane head-to-head, Team USA went on to secure eight singles wins en route to a 10-point victory.
