Icons Series, a new concept in sport and entertainment, today announced that a pair of Australian sporting greats – Ricky Ponting and George Gregan – will join the Team Rest of the World roster, captained by Ernie Els, for the inaugural US event at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, NJ, on June 30 – July 1, 2022.

The competition will bring together the world’s most iconic athletes across multiple sports and features a 10-hole team match-play tournament format with global sporting stars involved like never before. Tickets are available via here and start at $25.

Ponting is widely considered as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, and a global ambassador of the sport. Named “Cricketer of the Decade 2000”, he was one of the best batsmen of the modern era and is well-respected amongst the community. Ponting captained Australia’s national team during its golden era from 2004-2011 and is the country’s leading run-scorer in Test and ODI cricket, en route to 220 match victories.

Gregan, a World Rugby Hall of Famer, is Australia’s highest ever internationally capped player with 139 matches. A winner of the Rugby World Cup in 1999, his numerous career highlights span from a Bledisloe Cup win in 2002 to Super Rugby victories in 2001 and 2004 as a member of the ACT Brumbies, later becoming an assistant coach for the squad in 2012.

“We’re ecstatic to have Ricky and George, two Australian stars that have redefined their respective sport, join the Icons Series lineup at Liberty National Golf Club this summer,” said Icons Series CEO, Thomas Brookes. “Both are natural born winners and we’re excited to have a strong representation from Australia, including Ash Barty, on full display in New Jersey.”

Ponting and Gregan will join forces with Team Rest of the World led by four-time Major champion and captain Ernie Els, former World No. 1, three-time Grand Slam winner and fellow Australian, Ash Barty, boxing’s pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez, two-time Champions League title winner and illustrious Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, England National Team Captain and three-time Golden Boot winner, Harry Kane, and one of the greatest cricketers of all time, AB de Villiers.

The Team USA roster is led by World Golf Hall of Famer and captain Fred Couples, and features the most decorated Olympian of all-time, Michael Phelps, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion Michael Strahan, two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger, and two-time NBA champion J.R. Smith.

Team USA and Team World will announce additional Icons to the event lineup in the coming weeks of the event, with 12 total icons per team participating.
